Harlem Studio is proud to present Secret Passage, a group exhibition showing works and projects realized by artists during their three-month stay (July-September 2007) at Harlem Studio Fellowship (HSF) residency program. Curated by Raffaele Bedarida, Secret Passage includes three visual artists: Susy Blu (photography), Ettore Greco (sculpture) and Rob Smith (drawing).
Secret Passage cheaply evokes a horror or a fairy tale imagery, which suits HSF’s partially uninhabited brownstone building. On the other hand it signifies the subtle passage of these three foreigners’ viewpoints in their host neighbourhood within a three-month period: from the “white fly,” out of place condition, to the uncanny feeling (or illusion?) of immediate familiarity in the new context. These are the changing identities of interlocutors-witnesses that Susy Blu, Rob Smith and Ettore Greco have undertaken in the metamorphic atmosphere of Harlem.
